Association Development
After serving a nonprofit Association for over 14 years I developed several strategies to build political power and diversifying increase revenue streams for associations. As a part of my consulting practice I am very anxious to share my learnings and my strategies with others.
In this day having a strong voice is critical when trying to influence legislation that affects the lives of everyday people. Often times the power of an association is overlooked, or that power is not well organized and not effectively deployed. After working in the Oregon Legislature for five sessions, and getting several key bills passed, I know firsthand the value and power an association can bring to the conversation. I also saw firsthand that at times, getting organized and getting folks to take action can be a challenge. Luckily, I devise a solution that worked quite well.
By identifying key issues, disseminating critical talking points, and deploying Association members and their constituents at the right time, I've seen challenging bills make it through committees and floor votes to become law time and again. In order to manage this process I developed a set of clearly defined action steps and a database that organizes constituents with lawmakers. Combining the right messages with the deployment database tool organized our advocacy effort and allowed us to effectively get our messages out to the right people at the right time over and over again. I offer an in-depth analysis of your current revenue situation and offer recommendations to increase the "low hanging fruit" opportunities already sitting in your operating budget. I also detailed a set of recommended opportunities to generate more revenue. Many of these opportunities can be deployed with existing staff.
